Personal Energy Transportation (PET) is designed for use by individuals with limited lower extremity mobility associated with contractures, congenital absence of lower limbs, phocomelia or cerebral palsy and who reside in outpost areas with limited access to adaptive equipment. The PET is a hand-cranked model with sturdy tires made out of wheelbarrow wheels and solid rubber tires. There are three versions available: Child & adult crank sizes and Pull PETs for those who do not have upper body strength or coordination.  The PET can be adapted to a wide variety of bed or seat configurations.  It also has a front-wheel brake, with a simple parking brake.  Despite this robustness, the PET is not an all-terrain vehicle. It will not go everywhere. Its ability to move is limited to the muscle power of the driver. As the driver uses the vehicle more, he/she gains upper body strength and endurance.
